ICE CREAM!!
I grew up in this area (just down the road) and between Gallone's in the Vale, and Dino's in Helensburgh we were spoiled for choice when it came to authentic milk based ice cream parlours.
Alas Gallone's is in now closed so Dino's is flying the flag!
And what a great flag.
I should, at this point, admit that I've only ever had ice cream from here, and only ever had the classic Italian milk ice cream (a 99 of course!) but ohhh what heavenly wonder it is!
If you've never had milk ice cream it may sound odd, most ice creams these days are rich with cream, but Dino's ice cream is just as smooth and delicious with a distinctive milk flavour borne from full fat milk.
It's perfect for a sunny day, grab a cone, wander along the promenade (sea front), or stroll out along the pier. Whilst you are walking, why not plan to keep on driving up past Faslane to Arrochar, and admire the views of the foothills of the highlands start to loom into view (turn right at Arrochar to head across to Loch Lomond and then drive back to Balloch from there).
I've loved Dino's for as long as I knew about it, and it was great to discover that all these years later, it's the same recipe, the same soft, cool, deliciousness, in a cone.

Great coffee here one of the best I've had.
I always pop into this family run cafe when I'm in the area they have the best coffee in town, they specialise in soup, sandwiches, paninis, and Italian ice cream. -

The best vanilla ice cream in Scotland. Full stop. Forget the ones in Largs or Musselburgh that usually get the plaudits. This. Is. The. Best.

Dino's is famous throughout Glasgow for having the most delicious ice cream so when I popped in a few days ago I decided to try it out.
The decor was that of an old fashioned ice cream parlour. I was served by a rather haughty Italian man who told me to go for vanilla. Not one to argue, I plumped for the cone with a flake.
I'm glad I did because it wasextremely yummy. Walking along the Clydeside promenade on a sunny day, ice cream in hand, is a definitive Helensburgh experience
